The incident began around midnight on Thursday, Dec. 12, when a silver BMW was carjacked at gunpoint in New Haven, said Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras.
Within 30 minutes, it is believed that three suspects then drove to Norwalk and unsuccessfully attempted to carjack a Maserati at gunpoint.
The three then were able to successfully carjack a blue Nissan Altima at gunpoint.
Norwalk Police located both vehicles (the silver BMW and the blue Altima) and pursued them onto I-95 northbound toward Fairfield.
Westport Police and Norwalk Police were in pursuit when the BMW left I-95 at Exit 23 in Fairfield and continued immediately on the northbound entrance to I-95, he added.
The Altima continued on I-95 north and was not located, he said.
The BMW then continued back onto I-95 southbound at Exit 24 and left the highway again in Fairfield, and continued on Kings Highway towards the center of town.
A Fairfield officer became the second car in the pursuit behind Westport police and the BMW was pursued through Fairfield before turning north onto North Pine Creek Road.
The BMW failed to negotiate a right-hand turn from Unquowa Road onto Sturges Rd. and collided into a stone wall, Kalamaras said.
With the assistance of Westport and Norwalk police, the three suspects were taken into custody.
A loaded handgun was located on the floor of the vehicle where one of the suspects had been sitting.
The suspects were turned over to Norwalk PD for arrest and processing, he added.
“We would like to thank Westport PD, Norwalk PD, and New Haven PD for their unwavering assistance in the apprehension of three very dangerous felony suspects in our town," Kalamaras said. "Had it not been for the coordination and teamwork of these agencies, three armed carjacking suspects would still be at large.”
